Who knew the peace prize would be such a polarizing issue?
Apparently, vox doesn't let you "edit to add" to a post once it's received comments (unlike Live Journal, for example) so this is really just an addendum to my previous post.
It would seem like Al winning the peace prize has been a hugely polarizing issue, even among my fellow Al Gore fans. Some are thrilled and think it's fantastic he's finally gotten his due. Some think the Nobel committee has its own agenda. Some are convinced that global climate change IS a humanitarian issue. I think it *could* be a humanitarian issue, especially if proven to be the driving force behind natural disasters like Katrina, wide-spread drought, and subsequent conflicts because of those kinds of conditions. But Al Gore won for a powerpoint presentation. And yeah, he inspired a lot of people to get active, involved, and change the way they live, myself included. But let's say someone writes a book that inspires a young doctor who eventually finds a cure for cancer. Who gets the Nobel prize for medicine? The person who wrote the inspirational book or the doctor who actually did something about it?
