I was just watching Noggin (a pre-school television network) and they advertised a full day of pirate programming for "talk like a pirate day." Which is, lucky me, on my birthday. This damned "holiday" is never going to leave me in peace, is it? And now, they are even poisoning the brain of my oh-so-impressionable toddler. Mama wants a birthday free of arg, matey!
In other non-related but equally headdesky news, I saw the following today on WWD:
"As reported on GigaOM/NewTeeVee and everywhere else, Apple and NBC can’t come to terms and you won’t be able to download NBC shows like Heroes on iTunes this season. Beyond the arguments over pricing and DRM, both companies are taking their war to the streets, issuing press releases in an effort to sway public opinion to their side of the argument. Yesterday, we heard Apple’s side. Today, NBC fights back. On a similar note, watch for Apple to make iPod-related announcements at their special event on September 5."
As I stated in the comments (and with which Om Malik wholeheartedly agreed)
Nevermind Heroes. No Battlestar Galactica Subscription!! :(
What was your favorite TV season finale this year?
Submitted by Kristine.
Anyone who knows me beyond my work-self already knows the answer to this one: Battlestar Galactica, followed by LOST, Ugly Betty, & Desperate Hausfraus. Haven't watched the finale of The Office yet to see where it ranks in that list. I am so behind in my Office viewing, but work has been extremely demanding the past few months.
Also, I have to say while it wasn't quite recent, I am still gobsmacked by the finale of S2 of Dr. Who:
Just rewatching it, Abbey said to me, "why can't they open a door and just be together? They look so sad, mama!"
Who's going to be in the Final Four?
Tyrol, Tigh, Anders, & Tory? (and of course still holding out hope for Gaeta.)
oooooh, you mean the OTHER Final Four. No bloody clue.
What are your plans for the weekend?
Despite it being a lovely clear day (albeit cool) we don't have any plans. Or rather, had to cancel our plans since our Volvo is on a suicide watch. It died three times yesterday when Bill made the mileand a half trip to the grocery store for baby wipes and teething tablets. Couple that with the heat being wonky, the driver seat adjusters not working (which is ok for Bill since it's stuck in HIS default position, but sucks for me!) and this being our only transport for our two children, I think we are going to replace rather than repair. Let this be a lesson to you, kids: never test drive a car in a blizzard, particularly when the dealership is 50 miles from home and you're feeling hyper-pressured to buy.
Lessee, what else? Yesterday, of course, was an extraordinary Who/BSG knockdown punch, and tomorrow is the high holy day of football.
Do you listen to podcasts? Are there any you'd recommend?
Inspired by Alex.
The only podcast I listen to with any regularity is the weekly Battlestar Galactica podcast by Ronald D Moore, although I do occassionally listen to NASA Astrobiology Magazine & Media Artist Secrets as well.
If you expand the question to include the whole vlogging thing, I do love me some Rocketboom and Tiki Bar.
What TV show(s) will you be watching this season? Why?

This is easily the easiest question I've been asked. Beyond a doubt, BSG, baby! I can't believe we've had to wait close to 7 months between seasons, but Battlestar Galactica is unquestionably worth the wait. It is easily the smartest television show in decades, if not ever, and believe me, I've watched a LOT of things I thought were fantastic that pale in comparison. Get over the name, get over the "I'm too cool to watch sci-fi" bias and WATCH it. October 6, 9pm ET, Sci-Fi.
Of course, I'm watching less lofty things as well. Lost, Desperate Housewives, Dancing with the Stars, The Office. Way more HGTV than is good for me. And of course, Noggin rules in this house when my daughter has her say. Sad to say, I am actually looking forward to the new Backyardigan's episode, Mission to Mars. Nothing like breaking the children in early on their love for science and space, not to mention cheeky musicals!
Can I just give a shoutout to all the BSG people out there? BSG rocks!
